Class 8 : Computer Software Project work

Q.  Explain the Software and its types

Software is a set of instructions, programs, or data that tell a computer how to work or perform specific tasks. Unlike hardware (the physical parts of a computer, like the monitor, keyboard, or CPU), software is intangible — you can’t touch it, but it makes the hardware useful.

Types of Software:

  1. System Software

  2. Application Software

System Software:
System software is a collection of programs designed to run the computer's hardware and application software, acting as the foundational layer that manages a computer's resources and provides a platform for user applications. It coordinates hardware functions, controls basic operations, and serves as an intermediary between the hardware and application software, enabling the computer system to operate smoothly.

Types of System Software:-
    1. Operating System software
    2. Language Processor
    3. Utility Software
    4. Device Driver

Application Software:-
Application software, or app, is a computer program designed to perform specific tasks for a user, such as word processing, browsing the internet, editing photos, or playing games, and it runs on top of the operating system. Unlike system software, which manages the computer's hardware and operations, application software serves to fulfill user needs for productivity, creativity, or communication. Examples include Microsoft Word, Google Chrome, Photoshop, and mobile apps like Whatsapp.

Types of Application Software:-
    1. Packaged Software
    2. Customized Software
